Spring Roster Checks

It’s that time of year again! In an effort to ensure the highest quality of membership constituency, semi-annually, a copy of your unit’s most up-to-date roster is requested so that the volunteer commissioners and membership team can review it for accuracy.

This is critically important in the spring, as the summer camping season is right around the corner. We want to ensure that all youth and adults active in your unit are properly registered in the ScoutNET system. If, for whatever reason, one of your members is identified as unregistered, you will be notified immediately so a new application can be submitted.

If you have not already done so, please submit your current unit roster to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  ASAP. If you’re not the person who handles this for your unit, please pass along the request to the appropriate party.

Thank you for your continued service to youth and your attention to this very important, time sensitive process!

Webelos Outdoor Weekend

Webelos Outdoor Weekend (W.O.W.) is a camping weekend just for Webelos dens! Held May 17th-19th, the event will be full of fun and adventure for the novice and experienced camper alike. While the focus is on outdoor fun, the activities will allow Webelos Scouts to have a taste of Boy Scouting while competing in some classic outdoor challenges. Be sure to CLICK HERE or check out the attached promo for more details!

Day/Twilight Camp 2013

The highlight of the year for many Cub Scouts is Day Camps and Twilight Camps and they are just around the corner! Starting in June, Cubs will have 12 opportunities to join us for wild west fun and excitement with our "Wild West Cubs" themed camps. These camps take place all over our Council so there is at least one in your area. Day Camp is the perfect place for Cubs to earn belt loop and rank advancement while getting out of the house for a week with their friends.

This year, each of our 12 camps will offer the same great program over the course of 5-days with the same hours, all at the same price for Day Camps and Twilight Camps. Cub families can choose any camp that best fits their needs and attend any session they like! Check out our full schedule here to find a camp that's right for you!

Your Cubs will participate in daily activities that include BB guns, archery, fishing, crafts, STEM awards (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), water games, Scout skills, field games and sports, and more.

All Camps are run by trained volunteer staff and operated under National BSA Camping Standards to guarantee the safety of your son and the quality of his experience. For additional details, including a full schedule and contacts for each camp, or to register for camp, click "Read More" below. Registration is open now and early registration discounts are available if you register at least 30 days before camp starts.

Don't miss the adventure with your "wild west Cub" at Day Camp and Twilight Camp this summer! CLICK HERE for more details and to get signed up today!

Powered by Popcorn 2013

IS YOUR UNIT SELLING THIS YEAR?? It’s never too soon to start thinking POPCORN!! Selling popcorn is an outstanding fundraiser for scouting units. Not only is it yummy, but 70% of all sales go directly back to Scouting. A Scout that sells popcorn gains awesome communication skills, builds self-esteem, and excels in leadership. Please encourage your unit to participate in selling popcorn because of the exceptional opportunity it provides to youth. Popcorn commitment forms will soon be sent to all unit leadership, but for any immediate questions, please contact the Trailblazer District Popcorn Kernel Sean Sweeney at This email address is being protected from spambots. Get Ready for Camp!

We’re making it easy for every Scout in our council to get ready and make the most of their Summer Camp and Jamboree experiences. We also want to help promote Dan Beard Council Camps this year.

That’s why we’ve planned a “Get Ready for Camp” Day on May 18, 2013. This exciting, all-day event provides the perfect setting for Scouts and parents to get all their camp questions answered and to compare and choose from the newest gear available.

It’s a one-day event with the fun beginning at 9:00AM:

• A $20 Scout Shop Gift Card with $100 camp gear purchase

• Personal backpack fittings in-store

• Free Summer Camp packing list

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:

The Scout Shop will be hosting events for the day that may be centered around the following areas:

·         First Aid

·         Knot Tying

·         What to bring to Summer Camp

·         How to pack a backpack

·         Cooking

·         Camp Information

·         Other Summer Camp Topics

We need experienced individuals who can come in and work with the event participants and provide demonstrations. If you or someone you know can provide time to help the Scout Shop promote camp this year, please feel free to forward this email and have them contact me.

Event Ideas:

·         Fire/EMS to provide basic first aid demonstration

·         Outdoor Cooking or cook off

·         Camp Registration

·         Any camp activities: Rock Climbing, Archery, Orienteering, Geocaching, etc…

·         Other Suggestions welcomed

Please let me know how you can help!

Thanks,

New MyScouting Tools

The BSA is excited to introduce new features that are now available in MyScouting Tools. They include:

Key 3 Organization Administrators

  • A new Organization Profile tool for displaying and managing information. It displays unit information that identifies chartered organizations and their representatives, and allows entry of unit social media contacts (Facebook and Twitter).
  • Roster Manager functionality is incorporated into Organization Profile for this release and allows roster views by adult, youth or unit, and filter by position.

Initially, Key 3 were able to print membership card(s) for members in paid position(s). Now, unit and district members are also able to print membership card(s) for paid and other positions within their organizations, with the following exceptions:

  • Executive Officer
  • Administrative roles
  • Non-registered “functional” roles

These features for the council and national levels will be extended in a future release.

Please encourage your volunteers and leaders to become familiar with these new added features in MyScouting Tools. To access MyScouting Tools, log into www.myscouting.org and click on the link embedded on the Flash page. To view support material on the new features, please click the links below:

We will be introducing new features every 3–6 weeks, so continue to stay tuned!

Range Director Training

There will be an archery range master training on Sunday, June 9th for any adults, including those who can volunteer on the archery ranges during Twilight or Day Camp. The training will be from 2:00PM-5:00PM at Camp Michaels at no cost to volunteers.

Contact Kevin Allen,  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  or 513-661-6480. Even if you can only help for a part of the week, please consider getting trained so our boys can have the safest and most fun shooting experience. If you cannot make Sunday the 9th, but are able to help out during the week of camp, contact Kevin to make arrangements.

If you are already trained as an Archery Range Master (or will be attending either of the trainings at Cub World May 4th or 11th) and can help any evenings of Twilight (June 10-14) or days of Day Camp (June 17-21), please contact Kevin at the email or phone above. Archery can be challenging for young boys to put together all the physical elements of shooting, so having enough qualified Range Masters is essential to their getting the most out of their time on the range.
